Winter Break

So... My first term in college is over. I have to admit, the pace of learning is much faster than I am used to, and even though I haven't failed anything, I have learned that I must not slack off in the first few weeks. Also, I should do ALL the assignments. All of them.

On a side note, I went bubble-teaing a few days back, and boy, I would have never thought it would be so fun! The teas were absolute heaven (at least, to my sugar-addicted brain): I had honeydew melon flavour with litchee jelly. It's a shame that products with these kinds of flavours are only sold in places like Chinatown!

Anyways, we went to the Bubble-tea place right above My Cup of Tea in Chinatown, and I really like the fact that it wasn't the dingy place I usually expect. They had a really nice light fixture that I really wanted to unscrew off the wall and take home and a nice (50"?) TV, but the channel sucked. They had a bunch of sports reality shows and a poker game (snore!)... Couldn't they have MTV on or something, especially since they were playing the good ole' saccharine J-Pop associated with anything remotely Asian-cute.

It was just me and Audrey, Fifa, Michelle and Evangeline (also Alessia, but she left early), and we played various card games (with very nice names like Pile of Shit and F***). In the end, we celebrated by applauding Michelle as she came out of her heavily-graffitied bathroom stall, which was incredibly funny considering we had 4 girls crammed into a small bathroom that only had 3 stalls (one of which was out of order) in the first place. Finally, we had Audrey do her dance in the middle of a mall (and we have it recorded), then we parted ways at the metro, after taking a few self-defense lessons from Michelle. ^_^ We are hoping to do it again next week, but this time, I am thinking of bringing Wai In along for the ride.

In other news, dad caught electronics fever, and bought us a 46" Samsung LCD tv. Woo-hoo. I wonder, though, if it's gonna replace our 27" upstairs, since those things make my head hurt. Also, funny thing happened today: mom was on Futureshop.com (where we bought the huge tv), when she noticed that after only 10 days after our purchase of the the TV, its advertised price when down by 40$ bucks. According to the Futureshop "Lowest Price Guaranteed" policy:
"If our own price is reduced within 30 days* of your purchase, bring in your receipt and we will refund the difference."
Naturally, we called Customer Services, and we explained the situation to the Customer Service guy. Not a good idea, in hindsight. He made us hold, and when he came back, he said that that wasn't what he sees on the website. So we went back, and lo and behold, the TV was now advertised for 2299$... Me smells something fishy!

Anyways. It's 2008, and I am REALLY excited about the Olympics. So excited, in fact, that I actually added Chinese 2 as my Complimentary course. My only hope is that the teacher wouldn't take one look and say, "You're already Chinese, get out." or "Sorry, we'll have to demote you to Chinese 1, and unfortunately for you, there are no more places in Chinese 1, oh, and there no place in Spanish one, either." If that happens, I will do something really not nice. Like spill coffee everywhere, like I did last time in the caf (accidentally).

Starbucks is the best. ^^
